The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) was established by Congressional mandate in 1991 to significanly increase the quality and quantity of minorities who successfully complete baccalaureate degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and who continue on to graduate studies in these fields. The program suports increasing the particiapton and advancement of under-represented minorities.
The International Research Experience enabled students to conduct ten weeks of research abroad. The LS-SCAMP alliance sponsored four undergraduate students for an international research experience during Summer 2014. The LS-SCAMP state office in collaboration with the international partners offered internship opportunities through the Study Abroad offices at Clemson and The University of South Carolina. A stipend for travel and support during the eight to ten week internship experience was provided All students selected had previous research experience, were juniors and seniors and were pursuing a major in a STEM discipline.
